Beauty :)
I know this is going to sounds so cliche, but I truly believe beauty comes from within. That is not to say that you can always show your beauty by the way you take care of yourself. I think dressing nicely, and taking care of yourself by maintaining hygeine, doing your nails, and hair shows how good you feel on the inside. If you feel beautiful, it shows. People who dress for comfort are beautiful too, they just may not have the need to show the world that they do feel the way they do. To me, beauty is that "something different" you have.

So, I finally got a chance to go to the Norton Musuem. When I first walked in I was amazed at how nice and clean the museum was. It had the perfect lighting and these security guards walking around everywhere. I felt like I couldn't talk loud, it felt like I was in a library. After getting in for free with my ID, we did not know where to begin. We started anywhere, not going in a particular sequence. I feel like we saved the best for last because, that last thing we looked at was the modern art. I love modern art more than everything. After looking at the modern art, we went outside to the sculpture garden. Other than a lady watching us like a hawk it was so peaceful and serene! I love gardens, and the sculptures in this one were so odd, but very interesting.
I had a good experience at Norton, and I hope to go to a modern art museum soon. Just so I can see everything I like.

Venice!
Venice Art Wall was the coolest thing I've been to.
I felt weird at first just spray painting on the wall.. hahah
I wrote my name, I wanted to be more creative, but there were taggers with legit skills waiting to use to wall! hehe
So I saw how people did it, they first spray painted it all one color (kinda like a canvas) and started doing their thing. I'm going to bring some stencils next time! :)
Artist Research
I would just like to point out that the name Jean-Michel Basquiat is the most artistic a name can get.. It sounds so classy and artistic. You would expect his art to be like different contemporary shapes, or like paint splatters on a canvas. You're in for a big surprise...
All of us dream of making a name for ourselves, as early as the age of 21, but do we all do what we love to do?? Hell no. Jean-Michel decided he would do what he loved and by the age of 23 he became famous all around the world for his artwork, how lucky is he right? If he was alive today he would be about 50 years old, sadly he is not here to make any new artwork, but he still lives through his artwork he produced years ago, and that's what makes him so amazing to me.
Like many artists Jean-Michel started drawing at the age of only five.. He then got into a car accident and his drawings kind of portray what he say in the medical books, with bones and stuff of human beings. At 17 him and his friend used to mess around a lot and paint, do what they loved ,when they created a graffitI character and called SAMO (Same Old Shit )
As if being a cool artist wasn't enough, he started selling his art on t-shirts and postcards... and he was even in an awesome band!
Jean-Michel's inspiration came from his African culture, all his paintings have to do with things that are close to him.
Since Jean-Michel wasn't living his dream enough, he settled in Maui and rented a ranch to produce art there, he also befriended Andy Warhol in the same year, and started to mix-up his art with him, but that didn't go to well according to the critics.. :(
After the death of his friend Andy Warhol Jean-Michel starts to get depressed and spends way more time in Maui, after coming home, he overdoses and dies. That's the end of his life, but not his artwork.
Being a black man, Jean-Michel loved to draw black people, he said they were usually "protagonists" in their paintings.
When he had his accident his mom gave him Grey's Anatomy videos to watch, and that's how he knew how to draw human anotamy so well, which was a big part of all his paintings.
It seems like a lot of his paintings were in the themes of culture and heritage, or politics, equality heritage, and some were even visual poetry. If you want to check out more of his paintings you can visit : http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/exhibitions/basquiat/street-to-studio/english/explore.php

Graffiti
I'm going to be honest. I always associated graffiti with gangs and violence, and kids trying to reach out in a negative way. In a way, it is true, these artists are trying to reach out. Notice how I use the word artist. I definitely think graffiti is art, after watching this video. What amazes me is how it is ALL OVER THE WORLD!! I thought I would only see it on my way to LA.. I was wrong! I think it is amusing how in France, mostly, if not all people who graffiti are either black or arab, this interests me because they're the ones who are feeling left out, and they're trying to reach out to the world.
In Amsterdam there was a lady who did graffiti, and she always had "the eye" in her all her artwork. SHE'S A TEACHER!! That just proves my point even more that all graffiti artists ARE NOT GANG MEMBERS.. they're just people trying to reach out with their artwork, even if it's not on paper.
One guy from Hamburg had the best quote I heard in the movie, "GRAFFITI ON CANVAS IS NOT ART", how true is that!? Graffiti is SUPPOSED TO BE FOUND anywhere but a canvas!
I realized that all these artists have A REASON they do art, wheter it's territorial or just for fun, there's a very good reason.
I never really looked at the art on the freeways, so now when I pass by, I will definitely have my eyes open!! Here is some awesome graffiti I found!! I thought this was kind of unique, and strays away from the regular tagging of names, or faces, whatever it my be :)

Matrix
Whenever I tell someone I've never watch The Matrix, I get the WTF expressions. It is true.. I haven't gotten the chance to be indulged with The Matrix. I will definitely take the time to rent it one day and watch it. It seems like a "thinking" movie, but those are my favorite. Anyway, I felt like I watched the whole movie just watching those scenes, which was kind of cool.
As for learning about the art from class, that was extremely interesting. The part that interested me the most about the caves were the very end of the caves, where it became so narrow that only one person could fit in there. I can only imagine what time of cool ritual type of thing they would draw/write in that little tiny space. It's just so secretive, especially since it's dark and only one person can fit in there. I feel like the painting on the inside of the bigger part of the cave were animals that they worshipped or maybe thought they would be reincarnated into once they died.
I could go on and on about what I thought about the paintings, but I think I'll stop there :)
