Graffiti

I'm going to be honest. I always associated graffiti with gangs and violence, and kids trying to reach out in a negative way. In a way, it is true, these artists are trying to reach out. Notice how I use the word artist. I definitely think graffiti is art, after watching this video. What amazes me is how it is ALL OVER THE WORLD!! I thought I would only see it on my way to LA.. I was wrong! I think it is amusing how in France, mostly, if not all people who graffiti are either black or arab, this interests me because they're the ones who are feeling left out, and they're trying to reach out to the world.
In Amsterdam there was a lady who did graffiti, and she always had "the eye" in her all her artwork. SHE'S A TEACHER!! That just proves my point even more that all graffiti artists ARE NOT GANG MEMBERS.. they're just people trying to reach out with their artwork, even if it's not on paper.
One guy from Hamburg had the best quote I heard in the movie, "GRAFFITI ON CANVAS IS NOT ART", how true is that!? Graffiti is SUPPOSED TO BE FOUND anywhere but a canvas!
I realized that all these artists have A REASON they do art, wheter it's territorial or just for fun, there's a very good reason.
I never really looked at the art on the freeways, so now when I pass by, I will definitely have my eyes open!! Here is some awesome graffiti I found!! I thought this was kind of unique, and strays away from the regular tagging of names, or faces, whatever it my be :)
