Andy Goldsworthy

Andy Goldsworthy
Born : 26 July 1956
British sculptorphotographer and environmentalist does land art in natural and urban settings. He lives and works in Scotland.

Goldsworthy studied fine art at Bradford College of Art (1974–1975) and at Preston Polytechnic (1975–1978)n Preston, Lancashire, receiving his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from the latter.

I was really interested to research my artist Andy because a lot of the art I have been assigned were abstract. Their art was to be researched inside and out. You had to take your interpretation of what you got out of the art. I am more of a concrete person. I love
Most of his work consists of him using
brightly-colored flowers
icicles
leaves
mud
pine cones
snow
stone
twigs
thorns
Even to manipulate things in nature, he rarely uses machines, he likes to use other raw materials to manipulate his main focus. For example, to strip down feathers, he may find a sharp rock for that.

"I think it's incredibly brave to be working with flowers and leaves and petals. But I have to: I can't edit the materials I work with. My remit is to work with nature as a whole."

Considered the "FOUNDER OF ROCK BALANCING"

"I need the shock of touch, the resistance of place, materials and weather, the earth as my source."

Andy is very particular with working with his art exactly where he finds it because he believes the space he finds it in, tell it's story.

Leaves polished, greased made in the shadow of the tree from which they fell, pinned to the ground with thorns.

When I first started, I was already excited to see his art. After seeing his art, I got so interested, I started to blog this on my personal blog, and all my followers LOVED IT! I just think it's such a beautiful and interesting way to appreciate nature. I go to the beach and appreciate the waves, the sun, the sand. Andy turns appreciating that, into a whole different world. His art really speaks to me, because I wish I was as amazing as him in the way that he finds all this NATURAL BEAUTY.
There are so many pictures I wanted to post! But I tried to pick out my favorite ones.

The Beall Center for Art + Technology

My experience at The Beall Center was far from what I expected. Entering the school, we were overwhelmed by all the different buildings around us. Finally, I used my noggin and called my friend, who attend UCI, and he directed us to where the Art buildings were. I'm not very good at navigating myself around, so I asked for help from a very sweet young lady sitting down. She actually took the time out of her day to walk us so we could easily find the building. HOW NICE OF HER!
Anyhow, the doors to the center were open, but it was very dark. I'm not going to lie I was kinda scared to walk in there, especially since the first thing I saw was a white inflated "thing" which kinda looked like a man in the dark. We walked in and were greeted by a very kind person working there. He asked us if we wanted a "tour" of the ONE ROOM, and of course we accepted. The first and coolest thing he showed us were the moving "birds" They're actually sensored and react to our presence. All the motions were engineered with the use of the tubes and air, how awesome! I was kind of surprised at how quickly they inflated, it was very amusing. I must admit, the setting of the dark room kind of gave me an eery vibe, but nonetheless, I had a great time!

Miso still pics

The Radiant Stallions are my favorite. They almost looks fairylike. I love the way they glow in the dark background. They just look so fierce and intimidating, It is beautiful to me.

Me on Second Life

I went on Second Life to get some "hands on" work with Miso's art.
It was actually quite amazing. She created gardens and art galleries, in a different world, with the ambiance that you would find in a real garden or gallery. Here are a few snapshots:

A quote by Miso

"SL has been part of my rebirthing, having spent the last 12 years as the 4 of Swords, entombed and alone. Beginning last May 31, I began a reawakening of my dormant powers and personality; shaking off the lassitude of droneness and security and leaping out (well, after a few false starts and stumbles) into life again. SL has been a great part of that and I would like to thank the people who have encouraged me and supported me in my clumsy attempts to reclaim my soul and opened this amazing world to me"

I thought this one was the most interesting... I'm not sure if this person passed away in real life.. or in secondlife, it kind of gives me goosebumps..

Sabrinaa-smallwake

This is one shot of the spontaneous remembering of Sabrinaa Nightfire, who passed on 2-6-11. Yes, Second Life is real, as this outpouring of grief and sympathy illustrate.

Miso Susanowa

To be honest, this video gave me the creeps, but in a good way. The audio is just something different to my ears.

Miso - 2

It has taken me a while to figure out what Miso actually "does"... But I think I understand now. I believe she makes structures and "scenes" on this website "Secondlife" which is a very difficult thing to do.
Miso believes that "We use sounds way more than we think. So I merely extend that to the audio because it is both my background and I have particular sensitivity to sound." I believe when she says this, because many talented people see most things or in this case, hear things differently than everyone else does. Here are more examples of her artwork:

Collage

Well, I tried to make a theme here. The left side is my father's side, and the right is my mothers.
I am filipino and Indian, I know it's such a weird, but AWESOME mix. My family is the most important thing to me in the whole world. I feel like they are enough to define me. My father is from India, and he was born and raised there. My mother was born and raised in the Philippines. I took my first breath on August 8 1992, in the Philippines, but two short years later I was moved to India to live there for five years. I came to the USA when I was 7 years old, and that is when my life started to take shape, but I never want to loose sight of where I came from.

I was wondering whether this was Jesus or not.. I'm not sure... I don't really get this one. :/
Okay, MJ, nuff said..
This was possibly the coolest piece of artwork, I've EVER seen in my life. When I read the caption for this, it said this is made out of steel! Imagine if this thing fell, I feel like it would cause a little earthquake.. HAHA
So simple, but so confusing...
Didn't really understand this one, but I want to get it.
BIGGEST MUSEUM I'VE EVER BEEN TO!
I sat and read the first page of one book, wasn't sure if I was supposed to sit down.. but I did..
I love peacocks, peacock feathers, they're just so classy!
I wondered why there were clothes, apparently this is the staple of what Americans wear? I don't see it.
Love paintings like these. I feel like they are old landscape paintings, just made more contemporary.
LOVE LOVE LOVE SHAPES!
I want this in the foyer of my future home..
When I saw this, I was like WTF? AWESOME! ha
SOOO AS YOU CAN TELL, I had an amazing time at LACMA! This museum was so huge(like everyone said)
I had the most fun at the contemporary art building, everything there was just so up to date and seemed so into tune with the world now. I love contemporary art, so everything else did not seem to interest me as much as the work at the contemporary art building.

Working hard, or hardly working?

I'm currently working on my collage... yeah.. on a Saturday night....

Artist Research - JENNY HOLZER

So I definitely feel like I got an artist that I can totally relate to. I love quotes, and she is all about quotes, and showing the world what she has to say, literally!
My artist is JENNY HOLZER, she is an abstract artist who focuses on painting and printmaking.
She uses many objects to display her art, some examples would be:

BRONZE PLAQUES:
STONE BENCHES:
STICKERS:
T-SHIRTS:
CONDOMS:
PAINTINGS:
PHOTOGRAPHY:
AND MY FAVORITE, LED'S AND LIGHT PROJECTIONS:

Here are more of Jenny's prjections: http://www.jennyholzer.com/list.php

Jenny started off with her own phrases and words, but ever since 1993 she started to make other people's words into art. Jenny Holzer's art always gets a response, whethere good or bad from the people who view it, she talks about very bold situations or topics.
Jenny believes that many of the things she reads can be summarizes into one phrase, and this what her art was, which she called "TRUISMS".

To project her art, Jenny had to learn how to use LED machines, to reach out to a larger audience. She learned the technology of these types of machines, and displayed nice of her "TRUISMS" at Time Square.
Jenny's main idea was to make people realize whethere or not they realize what they are being fed by the media, and whethere they pay attantion to all the things they see, and how it affects them.
Holzer says she was inspired by "clean, simple variations"
